IPL (Intense Pulse Light) LASER:
IPL is a type of laser used to minimize or remove age spots, sun damage, freckles, birthmarks, varicose veins, and redness from rosacea. In addition to a cosmetic result, IPL has value in treating dry eye. IPL targets active signs of inflammation, such as facial and/or ocular rosacea and telangiectasia, or meibomian gland dysfunction. Studies have shown an improvement in meibomian gland function and dry eye symptoms after treatment.
This is an in-office procedure which takes 5-10 minutes. Patients usually require 2-3 session which are 3-4 weeks apart.
BLEPHEX:
BlephEx is an in-office procedure used to clean the eyelid margins. This procedure takes a few minutes to perform and removes excess bacteria, dead skin cells, and debris from the eyelid margin. It can help improve the health of the eyelids which in turn can help improve symptoms of dry eye syndrome.
MEIBOMIAN GLAND IMAGING:
The upper and lower eyelids have glands called meibomian glands which play a role in secreting the lipid layer of the tear film. This lipid layer is essential for a healthy tear film and ocular surface. When these glands do not function optimally, there can be an imbalance in the tear film causing dry eye syndrome.
We offer non-contact, infrared imaging of the meibomian glands. This in-office procedure can help pinpoint a specific cause of dry eye syndrome with targeted treatment options.
AMNIOTIC MEMBRANE:
Amniotic membrane is a combination of tissue and cells which can help with wound healing by acting as a foundation for re-growth of tissue. It comes in 2 forms: a thin membrane or an eye drop. It can be used to treat conjunctival and corneal diseases by acting as a biological bandage to heal or replaced damaged eye tissue. This damage can be caused by severe dry eye disease.
PUNCTAL PLUGS:
Punctal plugs are tiny devices that are placed in the eye’s tear ducts (called puncta). Puncta are the tiny openings that drain tears from your eyes. About the size of a grain of rice, the plug stops fluid from draining from the eye. This helps keep the eye’s surface moist and comfortable, relieving dry eye symptoms.
SERUM TEARS:
Serum tears are eye drops made out of a patient’s own blood. The blood is processed so that the cells and proteins are removed. The serum is placed into eye drop bottles and used as eye drops. These drops have healing and nurturing properties beyond that of commercially available artificial tears.
